Beach Activities for Cold Weather

3-things-to-do-at-the-beach-when-its-coldBeach time is always a great time, even when it?s chilly, and there are plenty of beach activities for cold weather. If the temperatures have dropped, but you?re still wanting to book that oceanfront rental for a family beach trip, don?t worry. Even with colder temps, here are three activity ideas your whole family will enjoy:Inside Game TournamentBefore leaving for your trip to the beach, pack all of your favorite board games and card games.  Then, head to your local discount store and buy some bags of candy and anything else that can be handed out as a prize. Once you?ve reached your destination, use any downtime to play some games tournament style. If you?ve got a large family, divide into teams. Tally the winners of each game and at the end of the trip crown the winner with the prizes you bought!Hot Chocolate and Cookie NightStaying in a beach rental gives you the luxury of a full kitchen. Use it to your advantage! Make some hot chocolate filled with marshmallows and whip cream then throw some cookies in the oven that you can decorate with icing, sprinkles and anything else your hearts desire. Once you?ve got your hot chocolate and warm cookies in hand, head out to the porch with some blankets and do some Soup PicnicOnce again, take advantage of that full kitchen. Make some of your kids favorite hot soup, then head out to the beach for a picnic. Once you?re done with the soup, add a football or soccer ball to the mix for a fun family sports tournament. The soup and the running around is sure to heat you up in no time!No matter what time of year it is, the beach is always a great place to create lasting family memories. Check out some of our awesome family-friendly beach rentals and make your dream beach vacation come true!

4 Reasons to Rent a Beach House for Your Next Beach Vacation

4-reasons-to-rent-a-vacation-home-for-your-next-beach-vacationBeach vacations are always a blast. Sand, sun and family time. What could be better? Booking a beach rental can upgrade your beach vacation from an 8 to an outstanding 10!

Sometimes the beach can tire you out, especially if you have children.
Spend too much time at the beach during the day and you just might find that the sun can become overbearing and the sand can become a nuisance. Having a beach rental can solve all of this!Instead of spending hours upon hours at the beach, you can spread it out and go periodically throughout the day. This means you can go to the beach for a few hours in the morning, walk the rental for lunch, relax, head back out and then finish the day floating the pool!screen-shot-2016-11-17-at-9-54-52-am
Everyone gets their own space.
Having a beach rental also means everyone can have their own space which is especially great for babies and kids. Family time is great, but sometimes everyone needs a little time to do their own thing whether this is read a book, watch TV or play. This keeps moods in check and makes family time that much better!
Cut down on meal expenses.
If you have a large family, going out to eat during vacation can become expensive. Utilizing a beach rental means you have a full kitchen that you can utilize for breakfast, lunch and dinner, cutting vacation costs tremendously.
Enjoy your vacation as a family without the noisy distractions.
Beach vacations aren?t just for families which means in typical hotel scenarios, you can find yourself surrounded by college kids in the pool or noisy groups that make getting a good night?s sleep impossible. By getting a beach rental, you cut down on the distractions and spend more time fully enjoying your vacation as a family.surfside-beach-14Make your beach vacation the best one yet and book your family a beach rental. If you have questions about which rental is best for you, reach out to our staff--we?d love to help you find the perfect fit!

Our 3 Favorite Places for Waterfront Dining on the Grand Strand

There’s nothing like enjoying the flavors of Myrtle Beach while watching the Sandpipers race along the shoreline, or listening to the waves lap the sand. Here are three favorite places to eat and enjoy waterfront views:

The South End: The Gulfstream Cafe

Marlin Quay Marina is a short little pit stop for boaters in Garden City, but The Gulfstream Cafe is a local favorite. Not only does it have a beautiful third-floor deck with expansive views, both levels of dining rooms feature floor to ceiling windows to take in the sunset. We recommend the surf and turf or any special on the menu. The bar is fully stocked and knowledgeable mixologists will provide you with your favorite cocktails, wine or beer. This is an especially popular destination during the holidays, so book your reservation in advance if you’ll be in the area near Christmas or New Years Eve.

Heart of Myrtle Beach: Sea Captain’s House

The Sea Captain’s House is a mainstay of Myrtle Beach. Located on Ocean Blvd. in the heart of Myrtle Beach, this restaurant has been open for over 50 years and is a local favorite. Don’t let the quaint exterior full you. Once you walk in, you’ll have a great oceanfront view. As for the food, they have menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But don’t miss the She Crab Soup or crab cakes. They’re among the best at the beach.

The North End: Filet’s on the Water

Filet’s on the Water is a more modern seafood joint located on the Intracoastal Waterway next to the Little River Swing Bridge. Its views are beautiful and the food is equally so. Start with the mussels or sushi and, of course, get a signature filet. They also have an amazing dessert martini menu that is a must-try.

No matter where you dine in Myrtle Beach, you’re sure to not be far from the water, but these three places are our favorite—from traditional to modern, from the inlet to the ocean—for dining on the water without having to be outside.

Mother, Daughter Getaway in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach makes for the perfect mother, daughter beach getaway, especially in the fall season. With mild temperatures, outside activities are actually enjoyable. The sun's heat isn’t pounding down on you as you walk and the cold, bitter air isn’t rushing across your face.

So, as you plan your getaway, keep these activities in mind.

Walk around The Market Common.

The Market Common is filled with shops to browse and restaurants to enjoy. On special days each month, events are also held here. It makes for a great place to wander around, talk and enjoy some great food.

Go on the Barefoot Princess Riverboat.

Take a sightseeing, sunset or dinner cruise. Sightseeing tours offer narration as you drift through the river, while sunset tours offer exceptional views of the sun setting over the water. Dinner cruises offer the chance to enjoy a night on the water while dining and enjoying onboard entertainment.

Visit Vintiques Antique and Variety Mall.

A stroll through Vintiques offers a chance to see vintage, antique and repurposed one-of-a-kind objects. It makes for a fun shopping trip that rests a little outside of the norm.

See a show at The Alabama Theatre.

The Alabama Theatre offers fun, entertaining shows throughout the year. This includes shows that their own cast and crew put on as well as guest entertainer shows. During the fall and winter seasons, the theatre puts on a dynamic Christmas show called “The South’s Grandest Christmas Show” which was voted the “most outstanding holiday show” in Myrtle Beach.

Go to Broadway at the Beach.

Broadway at the Beach is another great destination for strolling through some shops and enjoying different restaurants.

Go for a walk on the beach.

Of course, a walk along the beach is a must. Take a walk along the beach at sunset for an unbelievable view.

Sunscreen Dos and Don'ts

When it comes to a person?s beach bag, everyone has a different idea of what should go inside: books, music, snacks?the list is endless. But one thing we should all be sure to have in our beach bags is sunscreen! We?ve all heard for years the importance of using sunscreen to protect us from sunburn and skin cancer, but simply slathering up isn?t enough to keep you protected from the sun.sunscreen-dos-and-dontsFollow these sunscreen dos and don?ts to keep your skin protected!

Apply and reapply often! The recommended reapplication timeline is every 2 hours when you?re in the sun. If you spend a lot of time in the water and aren?t using waterproof sunscreen, you might want to reapply more often!Use hats, shirts, cover ups, umbrellas, and more to keep you out of the sun as much as possibleApply sunscreen even on a cloudy or cold day. You can still get burned even if it?s cloudy, and the temperature of the day has nothing to do with the sun?s ability to burn your skin!Use a sunscreen that protects from both UVA and UVB rays

Rely on your makeup?s built in SPF to be enough to keep you safe. You?re likely not applying enough or reapplying often enough for makeup to be an effective sunblock.Assume that because you have darker skin you?re immune to the sun?s ability to burn you.Apply sunscreen to your infant without first consulting a pediatricianWaste money on SPFs higher than 50, as there?s no evidence to support that SPFs higher than 50 are any more effective at protecting you from the sun.Looking to plan a vacation to the beach?
