- "Margaritaville," Jimmy Buffett
How can you not include this Jimmy Buffett classic on a list of best beach songs? Listen to any song by Jimmy Buffett and it’s easy to close your eyes and pretend like your troubles are a million miles away.
- “Sun Daze,” Florida Georgia Line
Because isn’t summer just all about getting your sun daze on?
- “The Tide is High,” Blondie
This breezy reggae song by the rockband Blondie isn’t your typical “beach” song, but something about it sounds great when paired with summer sun and sand. Give it a try!
- “Toes,” Zac Brown Band
Zac Brown Band, like Jimmy Buffet, has a knack for putting out music that just screams to be played at the beach! “Toes” is our top choice because he specifically mentions putting your toes in the water. Which is exactly what we wish we were doing right now!
- “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” Otis Redding
This is a song that seems to appeal to people both young and old. It’s just a classic and it makes you feel like taking things down a notch and living life a little more slowly, just like when you’re on vacation.
- “Summertime,” DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
Will Smith exudes a lazy confidence in this song and it’s easy to imagine listening to it while the sun’s setting on another beautiful day at the beach.
- “Smooth,” Santana featuring Rob Thomas
Something about the way Santana plays his guitar begs for this song to be played at the beach, wouldn’t you agree?
The great thing about the beach is that it means so many things for so many different people. Adults see the beach as an oasis where they can relax and soak in some sunshine, kids see the beach as a never ending playground, and everyone sees it as a great way to escape from reality for a bit. No matter your age, the beach makes a great backdrop to play games and enjoy being outside. Here are some of our favorite games to play on the beach:
Age: All ages
Sand volleyball is a classic beach sport that requires relatively little in terms of necessary equipment. Grab a net, some poles, and a volleyball and you’ll be ready to serve up fun all afternoon (pun intended!)
Football / Catch
Age: All ages
Catch is an old standard and can pretty much be played with anyone who still has use of their arms…you can even play sitting down if you really wanted to! Just toss a ball back and forth, but don’t let the tide suck it away!
Age: All ages (but better for older kids with a little more coordination)
Bocce is a great way to keep kids (and adults!) occupied for a while, and practice hand-eye coordination at the same time! All you need is an open space on the beach and a bocce set. Divide into teams and toss the center ball (pallino) and then try and toss your team’s balls one at a time to try and get closer to the center ball than the opposing team. You’ll be surprised how long you’ll find yourself playing!
Ages: 12 and up (it can get a little competitive)
It seems like everyone has their own rules for playing ultimate Frisbee, so you can adapt the rules to your comfort level. The basics are you can’t run with the disc and once you receive the disc, you have 10 seconds to throw it to your teammate. For more comprehensive rules, consult USA Ultimate.
Age: All ages (but we recommend little kids if you want to wear them out!)
This is fun twist on the classic relay race. Divide into teams and then Put each big bucket high up on the beach and give 1 kid on each team a small bucket. Teams compete against each other by running down to the beach and getting a bucket of water to pour into the big bucket, switching off between teammates each time they “dump.”
This is a new, but really popular game that’s really taken off recently. To get the full rules for this game, watch the Youtube video. This one requires that you have a bit of skill in the Frisbee department, so you better start warming up now!
Age: All ages
Basically musical chairs, but with towels. You know the drill.
Age: All ages
This one is a fun onebecause you can change it up each time you play. Start by drawing concentric circles in the sand (like a dartboard), with each circle being worth a different amount of points (the smaller the circle, the more points it’s worth). Stand a designated distance away and try to toss your shell into the “bullseye” in the center! For added difficulty, try drawing non-concentric circles worth different points!
- There’s Always Something Happening.
Surfside Beach has lots of festivals and events all year round. From the Surfside BBQ festival to the SB Pet Festival, there’s always something going on that’s sure to help you build lasting memories!
- It’s Easy To Make A Splash
From renting a house with a pool to lazy days on the beach (tents are still allowed!) to sliding down the Dark Hole at Wild Water & Wheels, you’ll definitely want to bring your bathing suit. Water is definitely king in Surfside Beach!
- It Tastes As Good As It Looks
There are more delicious restaurants on Surfside Beach than one can even count! Whether you’re in the mood for Japanese, seafood, or a juicy cheeseburger, Surfside Beach has what it takes to satisfy any appetite!
- Fun For Kids (And Adults) Of All Ages
It’s easy to pass the time in Surfside Beach because there’s so much to see and do! Visit one of the many parks, like the All Children’s Park, eat ice cream as you stroll along the Surfside Beach Pier, or spend the afternoon up in the air parasailing. No matter what the adventure, Surfside Beach is ready!
- Living Here Feels Like A Vacation
Whether you’re here for a week or a year, Surfside Beach is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re always on vacation. And isn’t that something that everyone would like to do?

One of the biggest advantages to renting a beach house for your vacation instead of staying in a hotel is that you get a full kitchen to cook in (and can therefore save some money on going out to eat every night). In order to avoid having to buy a bunch of groceries that will just end up going to waste at the end of your vacation, we've come up with these recipes that use all the same basic ingredients and can be thrown together really quickly and easily!
Ingredients You’ll Use:
- Proteins: Chicken, Salmon, White Fish, black beans
- Vegetables: Broccoli, tomatoes, onions, cucumber, lemons
- Basics: olive oil, salt and pepper, Cornmeal, flour, butter, chicken broth, garlic
- Carbs: Tortillas, Rice, sweet potatoes
- Dairy: Cheddar Cheese, Parmesan, sour cream
- Condiments: Mustard, BBQ sauce, mayonnaise, salsa
Meal #1: Cornmeal Crusted Chicken Nuggets with Parmesan Broccoli – Cut chicken breasts into chunks and then toss in cornmeal & season with salt and pepper. Pan fry in olive oil for 6-8 minutes. While chicken is cooking, steam broccoli in boiling water for 3 minutes. Top broccoli with parmesan cheese. Serve nuggets with mustard for dipping and broccoli on the side.
Meal #2: White Fish Tacos with Spanish Rice – Saute ¼ cup of chopped onion & 1 clove of minced garlic in olive oil in a pot. Add 1.5 cups of rice, 2 cups of chicken broth and 1 can of chunky salsa and simmer for 20 minutes or until liquid is gone. While rice is simmering, season fish with salt and pepper and then grill or pan fry until flaky. Microwave tortillas for 10 seconds until soft. Add some fish to each tortilla and top with a little mayonnaise, tomatoes, chopped onion, sour cream and any other veggies you desire. Serve with Spanish rice.
Meal #3: Grilled Chicken with Cucumber Salad – Let chicken marinate over night in mixture of olive oil, garlic, and lemon zest, salt and pepper, and for 6-8 minutes per side or until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Mix together juice from a lemon, salt, pepper, and olive oil. Thinly slice cucumber and onion and dice a tomato and add to the lemon-olive oil mixture and let sit for 10 minutes. Serve chicken with BBQ sauce and cucumber salad.
Meal #4: Mustard Crusted Salmon with Mashed Sweet Potatoes – Peel and chop sweet potatoes and boil for 20 minutes. While sweet potatoes are boiling, mix equal parts mustard and sour cream, with 1 tsp of lemon juice. Season salmon with salt and pepper and coat thoroughly with mustard mixture and roast salmon in oven for 10-12 minutes. Once sweet potatoes are soft, mash and add sour cream, salt, and pepper and serve with Salmon.
Meal #5: Chicken and Broccoli Sauté with Rice – Boil 1.5 cups of chicken broth and add 1 cup of rice and simmer for 20 minutes until all liquid is gone. While rice is cooking, add olive oil to a pan and sauté diced onions, broccoli, and chicken breast cubes. Cook over medium-high heat for 10 minutes or until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Remove pan from heat and add diced tomatoes and stir. Serve chicken and vegetables over rice.
Meal #6: Loaded Quesadillas with Sweet Potato Chips – Thinly slice sweet potatoes and toss in olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 375 degrees for 10 minutes, flip, and then cook for another 10 minutes. While potatoes are cooking, melt ½ tbsp of butter in a pan and place a tortilla in the center of the pan over medium heat. Layer with cheese, chicken, black beans, tomatoes, onions, more cheese, and a second quesadilla. Cook until the bottom tortilla starts to brown and then carefully flip over so that the second side browns and the cheese melts thoroughly. Cut into quarters and serve with sour cream.

If you’ve begun the process of planning a trip to the beach for the upcoming summer consider staying in one of our Surfside Beach SC vacation rentals. When you stay in a vacation home you’re afforded lots of extra space, your own kitchen, and plenty of privacy – things you won’t get from a hotel. You can rent a vacation property for just your family or gather a group of friends together and rent a larger house to share. We have many homes with a large number of bedrooms. Share the cooking and childcare responsibilities but most importantly of all — share the cost of the rental.
You should always do plenty of online research before you choose your vacation rental. Read the testimonials from previous guests and learn what they have had to say about their stay. Look at all of the photos provided of the rental you’re considering. And of great importance – build your itinerary far in advance of leaving home. It’s easier to research the area and what there is to do during the time you’ll be there right from your own living room.
No matter where you decide to stay, be sure to ask plenty of questions before you make your reservations. If you’re traveling with an infant or small child, ask about the baby equipment some units may supply. Ask about furnishings as well as extra features like dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc., that may be important to you. Be sure you know the distance of your vacation home to the beach, if you’re unclear look the address up using Google Earth for a live real-time image.
We’re happy to answer any questions our guests may have about any of our rental properties. We have a wealth of information on our website at Surfside Realty but if you still have questions you can reach us by phone toll free at 800-833-8231.
