Beach House Cooking: Perfect Summer Recipes

Renting a vacation home offers a number of benefits to travelers. One of the best things about our beach homes is their fully equipped kitchens! You can save some money by preparing tasty family dinners right in your own rental home, with fresh, local ingredients! Here are some of our favorite beach-themed recipes for you to try out on your next trip:

Mahi Mahi Tacos: If you’ve ever eaten freshly-caught fish, you know there is nothing tastier. Take a fishing excursion while on your beach vacation and bring home the catch of the day for dinner! When made with fresh fish, these mahi mahi tacos will be the culinary highlight of your vacation.

·         Citrus vinaigrette

o   ¾ cup orange juice

o   ¼ cup lime juice

o   ½ cup canola oil

§  Mix well in a blender or food processor and drizzle over tacos.

·         Reb Cabbage Slaw

o   ¼ cup rice vinegar

o   1 tbs sugar

Teriyaki Turkey Burgers: If your rental home comes with a grill, these yummy teriyaki turkey burgers are a great spin on the classic. All you need is a bag of burger buns and your favorite toppings, and you’re all set!

Form into 8 patties and grill, brushing the patties with the remaining teriyaki mixture while they cook. Top with cheese, pineapple slice, and any other desired toppings, serve and enjoy!

Spiked Pomegranate Lemonade: A patio-dinner at the beach isn’t complete without a yummy and refreshing cocktail. We love this one for its fabulous summery taste, and it can be made in a pitcher for easy refills. For a kid-friendly version, just leave out the booze, top with fruit, and don’t mix up your glasses!

                For one drink:

·         1.5 oz. red berry vodka (we recommend Ciroc)

·         1 oz. lemonade

·         0.5 oz. pomegranate juice

Just Add Ocean

There is no question, being on the ocean or even nearby makes for a better, longer life with less stress and more opportunity to relax… at least that’s what I tell my clients.  J  Every time I look at the ocean and breathe in that salty air, feelings of peace and calm take over, burdens feel lifted and my face reveals a quiet smile.  I’m not a scientist and apparently this is nothing new.  As early as the 18th century, doctors were prescribing trips to the coast to visit special clinics offering seawater bath treatments to improve overall health says online magazine livescience.  In one of their recently published articles about the positive affect the ocean has on health and overall well-being, research reveals that the ocean does indeed reduce stress and promotes a healthier and happier life.

Here’s another positive in living and vacationing on the coast.  Scientists have also discovered that people who eat fish regularly are less like to suffer from depression.  Psychiatrist and lipid biochemist Joseph Hibbelin of the National Institutes of Health has shown that across cultures there is a direct correlation between ounces of fish eaten each week and rates of depression.  More interesting, Hibbelin and researcher Laura Reis have found that fish is commonly used as a symbol of happiness and good health in various religions and cultures.

So the next time you are considering home ownership on the coast or thinking about planning a beach vacation, you can feel confident in knowing that not only does being on the coast offer fun, relaxation, & so many other perk. The biggest perk of all is that the ocean is good for you and your family’s overall health and well-being. “It’s A Beach Thing!” indeed.

** side note… Now if only the government gave health care tax credits for owning coastal property or vacationing at the beach.  I mean… it has after all been researched and proven!  Just sayin’ ;-)

Hope to see you or hear from you soon!

Get the Most Out of Your Beach Rental

Options for entertainment in Surfside Beach are endless. From golf courses, to shopping centers, to sunny beaches, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy. If you've decided to rent a vacation home for your next trip to the beach, there are lots of ways to entertain yourself without even leaving the property! Here are 5 tips for getting the most out of your beach rental.

1.       Pack the essentials. While our homes are outfitted with plenty of amenities, prepare to bring some personal items. Linens are not included in a rental, but we do offer linen rental packages. Think ahead and bring beach towels, coolers, and other sunbathing essentials so that you are as comfortable as can be. Other vacation equipment items, like cribs, bikes, and golf carts are available for rent as well.

2.       Pack some extras. Renting a beach home for your group has plenty of advantages over a hotel room. Comfortable, spacious accommodations allow everyone to congregate and enjoy their vacation together. Consider bringing along a few DVDs for the kids, or even a few board games or a deck of cards for a family game night on the patio. Pool and beach toys are also great items to pack, and you can save time and money by bringing your own rather than purchasing them when you arrive at the beach.

3.       Hit the grocery store. While it’s a great idea to check out some of the area’s fabulous restaurants, don’t forget to stock the fridge with some snacks! Your rental comes with a fully equipped kitchen, and some rentals have outdoor grills. Save some money and bond with the family by having dinner at home. Whip up a few appetizers and enjoy happy hour on the patio after a long day on the beach!

4.       Plan extra activities. While your rental home with have plenty to offer, start thinking about what else your family would like to do and see during their trip to Surfside Beach. Consider planning a shopping day or fishing excursion for a fun family outing. Bring home your fresh catch and throw it on the grill for a meal the family will remember for years to come!

5.       Include the whole family. Think your four-legged friend could use a vacation, too? Browse our pet-friendly vacation homes and find the perfect fit for the whole family. There are plenty of dog parks and dog friendly restaurants in the area so you can include your best friend in the fun!

So if you’re ready to start planning your fun in the sun, we’re here to help! We want to make sure our renters have everything they need to plan memorable vacations for their families. Contact us for more information about our properties, and get ready to relax at the beach!
