Check Out These Dog Friendly Vacation Rentals

Dog owners across the country understand the pang of guilt experienced when it comes to boarding their pets. While friends try to help and tell you that pets consider the boarding facility: a ?vacation?, ?summer camp?, and just a cool opportunity to hang out with other canines, it doesn?t seem to relieve the guilt any. At Seaside Rentals we get that and that?s why we have 25+ dog-friendly vacation rentals to offer where you can stay and bring your pooch, too!Check Out These Dog Friendly RentalsWhile your four-legged family members won?t get the same benefits of lounging by the pool or on the beach with a tall, cool drink in their hands (paws?) as you will, they?ll be over the moon happy just to be with you.If you want a more sparsely populated beachfront on which to enjoy time with all of your family you pretty much have two options:

  1. Go to the beachfront early in the morning or later in the evening when the general population of beach goers aren?t there and it?s cooler out.
  2. \t
  3. Take your vacation during the off-season between October and April. Again, the temperatures are much cooler for walking about in a fur coat 24/7!
Check Out These Dog Friendly RentalsWhen you want to go out in the heat of the day, we suggest leaving your dog ? who is hopefully very well behaved ? in your vacation rental to enjoy the air conditioned comfort. Dogs spend the majority of their day sleeping when you?re not around. They don?t (as some people think) sit around wringing their hands (paws?) wondering if you?ll be able to find your way back home again without their help.Dog Friendly Rentals in Surfside Beach SC Be sure to visit the Surfside Beach Dog Park located between 1st Avenue and Pine Drive by the Town of Surfside Beach Library. It provides your pet with off-leash time to socialize with other dogs and they just love it.When you?re ready to make vacation arrangements take a look at what Seaside Rentals has available for pet friendly vacation rentals. One of the benefits of renting a beach house versus staying at a hotel is that you truly get to feel like you live at the beach! However, we know that part of the fun of traveling to a new location is to try out some new restaurants and let someone else do the cooking (and washing the dishes!) so you have more time to relax.

Symptoms & Prevention of Heat Exhaustion

Vacationing at the beach is a wonderful experience. But as with anything, too much of a good thing can be detrimental to your health, especially in the south where temperatures can get very hot in the summer. If you’re going to the beach with young children, pets, or elderly people, it’s important to be aware of the signs of heat exhaustion and dehydration, so that you can avoid a trip to the hospital during your vacation.

Heat Exhaustion occurs after exposure to high temperatures and is often accompanied by dehydration. Without proper care, heat exhaustion can turn into heat stroke, which can be fatal.

Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion

  • Profuse sweating and goose bumps
  • Confusion
  • Dizziness
  • Fainting
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Muscle cramps
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Pale skin
  • Profuse sweating
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Dark-colored urine (a sign of dehydration)

Stay out of the sun by bringing an umbrella or tent to the beach to block the direct rays of sun and give your body a place of refuge. Taking a dip in the water can also help lower your body temperature. Drink lots of water to prevent dehydration and keep your body cool.

Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine, as these can make the symptoms of heat exhaustion worse. If you feel like you’re already experience the symptoms of heat stroke, get into a cool building as soon as possible and drink plenty of fluids. If symptoms don’t subside, get to the hospital; it’s always better to be safe than sorry!

Tips for Taking Children to the Beach

Bringing your children to the beach is a great way to create memories that they will cherish for years to come. We’re a family company, so we know firsthand how important and precious these family vacations to the beach can be. We also know that bringing kids to the beach also has its own set of rules and considerations in order to be successful.

First, make sure your kids have plenty of sun protection. We recommend lots of sunscreen, long sleeve shirts, hats, and sunglasses. There’s nothing that breaks your heart more than a sunburned child whose whole vacation is ruined because he or she is in pain. Apply plenty of sunscreen before you head to the beach and reapply at least every two hours. You’ll also want to consider creating a “home base” for kids to hang out in. This can mean tents, an umbrella, or any other shady area to give them some respite from the sun.

Entertainment is also key for bringing kids to the beach. Children can tire easily while swimming, so you’ll want to have other activities ready to keep them occupied. Games like Frisbee, catch, volleyball, or soccer are good bets. You can also get them interested in collecting seashells or teaching them how to build a sandcastle. You can spend money at the numerous beach stores on sand toys like buckets and shovels, or you can raid your kitchen for old colanders, plastic containers, and cups which can work just as well for little ones.

The first thing that will cut a beach trip short is lack of food and water. Children like to snack, so unless you want to make a bunch of trips back and forth to the house, it’s best to invest in a cooler stocked with water, snacks, sandwiches, and other goodies to keep them sated between meals.

One final tip: bring baby powder! Baby powder can help get sand off of you and your children before you get back to the car or house and will alleviate that sticky sand feeling that so many people hate.

What are your best tips for going to the beach with kids?
